Data migration is probably one of the most time and resource consuming parts of the financial system implementation project. Hence, it should be planned well in advance with sufficient resources both from IT and finance departments allocated o successfully complete this important task. Not only should the data from the legacy system be extracted, it has to be converted into the format recognizable by the new system, uploaded and reconciled.

Based on the data migration document there can be many different scenarios of migrating your ledger financial data:

• Full transactional history migration
• Opening balances only
• Opening balances and period movements
• Opening balances and monthly transactions

Depending on your business requirements as far as customer and supplier account balances are concerned only open items can be migrated. Fixed asset initial and accumulated values should be migrated separately from the rest of the ledger data.
Another large and crucial part of the migration process deals with the migration of any customized forms, reports, interfaces and applications that interact with SunSystems. The special migration plan needs to be developed to migrate these components as well.
Optional data cleansing can be done in your source system to decrease the amount of data to be migrated.
